Amsterdam - A city famous for beautiful houses over canals

Hello guys, hope you all enjoyed my previous story about the travel to Paris. This is another story from our Europe travel diaries continuing our journey from Paris.

Let me ask you one question before sharing this another incredible experience.

What do you look for when you go on vacation?

I have many reasons, but most importantly:
  • I look to disengage with my daily life and unite as much as possible with the new place.
  • At the same time, I also desire to enjoy the best of the time and places.
  • I look to dive into the local culture and try to understand their values and traditions.

The authenticity and uniqueness of Netherland’s capital, Amsterdam left me wanting for more. We were delighted that we choose to end our 8 days journey in world-famous Amsterdam.

Beautiful view of boats over canal

As you all know, Amsterdam is a gorgeous city with stunning views, bike-friendly roads and plenty of water canals(more than Venice, as I heard) where one can simply walk along and enjoy the city architectural treasures.

Day 1

We headed out early that morning, leaving beautiful Paris behind.
It was just an hour flight. I was eager to reach Amsterdam and start this 4 days journey, knowing the trip was going to be epic. Back of my mind, I was sure we shall have the best times of our lives!

We quickly freshen up in our hotel ibis and head out straight to explore the famous city.

At the central square, the first place we hit was Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum. The only place in Amsterdam where I found a genuine shrunken human head, a Megalodon shark jaw, and so much more! This place is full of amazing facts and figures.

This was the first activity in Amsterdam, which I realized that one should not miss. While for the rest of the day, we prefer to discover the city by walking around and get lost amidst its narrow streets.

Make sure to get the local transport pass at the Airport itself to explore the city without hassle. Or rent a cycle anywhere. The city is full of riders and has dedicated bike lanes.

Day2

On our 2nd day in Netherland’s capital, which is known for its dozens of Art Museum and famous canals. We headed to the very famous, Rijksmuseum (Dutch National Museum) dedicated to Dutch art and history. It offers many masterpiece paintings, artworks as well as jewelry, silverware, model ships, etc. I would surely not hesitate to say that it is

a haven for art lovers.

Now coming to the next most important activity, for which I have waited for long.....to embrace the delightful views and enjoy the pristine nature of Amsterdam via Canal Cruise.

SUGGESTION: prepare your cameras and keep your eyes open.

We found the best way to discover the city’s historical gems is simply by Canal Cruise. Yes, it is true. It gave us the opportunity to see parts of the city that we didn't explore yet.

Don't forget to plug in your earphones to hear the stories which made you travel back in time and relive the history of this city.

The bridges and buildings have many wonderful stories about the Dutch capital.
The slanting houses and open bridges over the canals are best witnessed from the boats exclusively. Canal Cruise is surely a recommended activity here.

This is how we happily ended our 2nd day in Amsterdam.

DAY3

We had mostly covered the main attractions. So, we thought to take a break from city streets and decided. Why not dig our toes into the sand at Amsterdam beach, named Zandvoort. It was just an hour journey from the city center.

Zandvoort Beach

Nothing could be better than sipping your favorite drink while watching the crashing waves at the shoreline.
We were there in the off-season so didn't find it crowded. Still, we enjoyed walking barefoot on the sand and clicked some amazing pictures.
I guess it’s one of those places that make you want to slow down, stand still and really just take it all in...

After having a great time at shores, we came back to the Amsterdam City Centre and used our time in souvenirs shopping.

Afterward, we took a walk for Red Light Secrets Museum. It is a good museum to know about the life of prostitutes, how they face the world. Museum provides an audio guide of stories from a woman who was in this industry for a while. The museum was a real brothel earlier. Therefore, all the rooms and items have many stories to tell.

Now, the time arrived when we had dinner at an Indian restaurant named Samrat. It is one of the best Indian cuisine restaurants near city centre with welcoming staff and delicious food to serve. What else would you want?

Amsterdam is the city of treating yourself in every way imaginable. Walking around Dam Square, we found one bustling place where we could not resist ourselves to try chocolate waffle, loaded with Nutella and lots of chocolate. Isn’t this sound tempting???

Day4
On our last day, we met one of Anshul’s college junior - Jaspreet, who has been working in Amsterdam for quite some time.
We spent a great time together. Nothing could give you more happiness, than catching up friends after a long time, most importantly outside the country.

We at I amsterdam

After having delicious Italian lunch together, just a few hours before our departure we headed to make our obligatory stop, The very famous "I amsterdam" sign (by a ferry). It is the best-known sight in the Dutch capital or the hottest place to take selfies with those big red and white letters, which is usually crowded with tons of people.
Therefore, it is hard enough to take a picture with it. But fortunately, we found only a few peoples around it. I was very thrilled and felt lucky.

The very famous - I amsterdam

4 days in this beautiful city went too fast. There are still so many things to see and experience in Amsterdam. Having said that, we will surely visit it again. Until next time, we said "doei doei" to this beautiful city.
